CONGRATULATIONS PAUL THISSEN! Paul Thissen wins second term in House District 63A! CONGRATULATIONS FRED WROGE! Fred Wroge, newly elected City Council member for Ward 2, submitted his stance on several issues in a Letter to the Editor in the Richfield SunCurrent for citizens to look for in the future: "If you want to: Feel assured your tax dollars are being spent wisely; If you believe it is important to give homeowners an incentive to improve our housing stock: If you believe that we should give fair and full consideration to all issues before the City Council: If you believe that we should support and help our business community prosper: If you believe the right of eminent domain (that is, the right of the government to take our property) should only be used to build hospitals, roads, schools or government buildings: If you believe a franchise fee on utility bills is just a smokescreen to hide the real cost of property taxes: If you believe that someone should be asking more questions about city expenditures: If you believe we need to do a better job of enforcing ordinances regarding noise (boom box radios), visual clutter (signs) and speeding - things I call quality-of-life issues - I thank you for your votes. I am currently a member of the City Hall Task Force and was a past member of the Richfield Parks Redevelopment Committee. I am proud that the Roosevelt Park Little League complex was a result of that participation. I am endorsed by the AFL-CIO. I will work hard to make sure Richfield and all of our residents are treated fairly and equitably by Metropolitan Airports Commission. I will not support changing the City Charter to all but eliminate referendums, initiatives or recalls. I have reached out to former mayors and City Council members of our community to get their vision of Richfield. They have shared their views and thoughts with me, and I want to thank all of them publicly for meeting with me. I will continue to seek them out for their perspectives. I will give you accountability and value from our government. I will look for compromise. I will support those who are right - and oppose those who are not working in the best interest of our city. Let's get back to a common-sense approach to solving issues that our community is facing. Thank you for your support." Citizens are welcome to contact him with any concerns, questions and/or suggestions they have.
