opportunities for the Older Adults in our community, too numerous to list
out here. It's publication "Changes into the Future;

Grocery stores that deliver: Store to Door : Delivers to Richfield on every other Friday. Delivers prescriptions and groceries, but individuals must order groceries to get prescriptions delivered. There is a program called the Senior Citizens Property Tax Refund Deferral , whereby the State will defer the property taxes of qualifying senior citizens, then put a lien on the property in the amount that is deferred, then paid off, with interest, from the estate or dale of the property. The Minnesota Senior Federation is totally run and directed by seniors in the TC area. Membership is available for $19 single and $29 couple. This includes a monthly "Senior News" and an annual guide to health plans. The Senior Federation also offers Reverse Mortgage counseling for seniors that want to remain in their home, but have depleted savings and are having difficulty meeting ordinary monthly expenses, or don't have enough money for bigger items such as a car, major home repairs, or property taxes. There is an organization called Senior Community Services that supports older adults and their families throughout the Hennepin County area. Senior Outreach is staffed by licensed, experienced, caring social workers that visit older clients, and often their families and provide assessments of goals, plans for services, service coordination/case management, counseling and follow up/monitoring. For more information on these services in the Richfield area, call 888-7121. Senior Community Services also sponsors the H.O.M.E. (Household and Outside Maintenance for Elderly) program. This program's objective is to help elderly, retired citizens remain living as independently as possible by helping with household chores and home maintenance. Services such as painting, repairs, homemaking, snow shoveling and yard work are provided on a sliding-fee scale. For more information call 888-7121.
Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches sponsors a program called HandyWorks Coordination Project which coordinates 17 community-based chore services offering housekeeping, yard work, snow removal and minor home repairs to seniors and those with disabilities. It matches low-income seniors with those who can help them. Richfield residents should call Home South Handiworks at (952) 888-5530 to find out more about this program. GMCC also sponsors Metro Paint-A-Thon, which rallies thousands of volunteers to paint the homes of low-income seniors and those with disabilities. The Senior LinkAge Line is a free telephone information and assistance service for older adults and their families to find community services. Information and Assistance Specialists will be happy to connect Richfield residents with transportation, housing, home health care, housework, food/meal delivery, legal assistance, financial assistance, snow/lawn care, employment, nursing homes, minor home repair, health insurance counseling and more services, and the organizations that provide them.CALL 1-800-333-2433. The Senior LinkAge Line is answered from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and messages can be left after hours, 24 hours a day. FAMILINK is a resource that will help Richfield residents get in touch with people and organizations of all types for all needs. It's purpose is to connect people and their concerns with community resources. Resource center staff are social workers, city employees, teachers, nurses, human service workers, counselors and volunteers. East Metro SAIL (Seniors Agenda for Independent Living) has developed "The Practical Guide to Universal Home Design" - a FREE room-by-room guide that shows how to make a home better suited for people of all ages, sizes and physical conditions! Want an opportunity to get involve with advocacy? The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) provides legislative and group advocacy to seniors in Minnesota. It studies legislation concerning mature citizens, and it publishes bimonthly magazines including Modern Maturity, News Bulletin and New Generation. It's Information Center has information available to the public on programs of AARP which include: 55 Alive: Driving program for seniors to assist them in maintaining and improving driving skills; Grief and loss programs; Information on insurance for cars, homes, mobile homes, health & life, long-term care, prescriptions, investments, etc. Information on legal services for seniors; Information on medication available by mail at reduced rates; and, Information on discounts on glasses and exams; The AARP Information Center is located at 228 West Market in the Mall of America, Bloomington, MN Call (952) 858-9040.
